Shirley was called home to Heaven on May 18, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born in Greensville County, Virginia to Turner and Mary Wright. She was raised on a farm and was an excellent student. She graduated from Greensville High School in 1951.

She worked her first job at Jones Drug Store in Emporia, Virginia and was very proud of the trust they placed in her while she worked there. She also worked as a cashier and in the deli for Winn Dixie for many years. Shirley married William Carlisle Mitchell in 1957 and together they had one child, William "Darel" Mitchell in 1967.

Shirley loved being a mother. She loved attending Darel's baseball games. She never missed a race at the racetrack. She could always be found on Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR on her television. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her precious grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Billy in 2002; sister, Doris Freid and brother, Pete.

She is survived by her son, Darel and his wife, Dawn; grandchildren, Dillon Mitchell and his wife, Maggie and Kaitlin Wesley Mitchell; sisters, Jane Unmussig and her husband, Donald, JoAnn Pearson, Frances Thompson and Lois Stafford and her husband, Scott and many nieces and nephews.

The family will host a service on Saturday, June 1st 2024 at 2:00pm at Spring United Methodist Church at 697 Spring Church Road, Skippers, Va. All are invited to the meal immediately following the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
