Welford Wray Wheeless

Welford “Wray” Wheeless, age 76, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He was born in Nash County on January 15, 1950, the second son of George and Lois Joyner Wheeless, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Debra Williams Wheeless; Debra’s children, Michael Long, Jennifer Johnson (Steven) and Kacie Long, all of Rocky Mount; brother, George V. “Chip” Wheeless, Jr of New Bern; sister-in-law, Celia Weaver of Rocky Mount and Debra’s grandchildren, Macey Johnson and Maitland Johnson, both of California. Wray will also be dearly missed by many special family friends, a loving church family, as well as several cousins and other extended relatives.

A memorial service to honor God and celebrate Wray’s wonderful life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at West Mount Baptist Church, 8487 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
