Amy Rogers Obituary

Nashville - 

Amy Jo Rogers, age 59, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was born on January 16, 1963 in Nash County.  Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Dorcas Swain Cooper. 

Amy was a life-long advocate of education. She received her B.S in Biochemistry in 1985, her M.A. in Educational Administration in 1996, and her Ed.D in Educational Leadership in 2011, all from East Carolina University. She taught science at Hunt High School in Wilson, NC before moving to the role of Assistant Principal at Fike High School in 1999. She also served as the Principal at Gardners Elementary School before finally moving back to the Nash County Public School System in 2008. Working at the central office for 10 years, she retired in October of 2018 after 31 years in education. Amy devoted her life to not only her education, but the education of others. She worked on various scholarship committees and served as the scholastic chairman for the Distinguished Young Women of Rocky Mount program for 5 years.

Many will remember her as a smart and kind soul who understood that every person comes with a story, and that we should treat everyone with empathy, kindness, and respect. She was a strong and compassionate teacher, leader, wife, mother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by a loving family that includes her husband, D. Scott Rogers of Nashville and her children, Jessica Rogers of Rocky Mount and Jon Rogers of the home. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Cooper of Rocky Mount.

A memorial service to pay tribute to Amy's life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, 2:00 PM, at the First Freewill Baptist Church, 1825 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Amy's honor can be sent to Vidant Health Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice c/o Vidant Health Foundation, 690 Medical Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
