Barbara (Leggett) Whitehurst

Mrs. Barbara Leggett Whitehurst, age 86 and formerly of Rocky Mount, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 10, 2025 at her home in Vanceboro. Born July 23, 1938 in Pitt County, NC, Barbara was the daughter of Allen and Jessie Belle Leggett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kellie W. Fisher and brothers, John G. Leggett and Guilford H. Leggett.

She leaves a lifetime of precious memories for her devoted husband of sixty-seven years, John Whitehurst; son, John Allen Whitehurst (Joanna) of Morehead City; daughter, Janie E. Owens (Rod Lancaster) of Vanceboro; son-in-law, Billy Fisher of Louisa, Va; sisters, Doris L. Krahenbill of Louisa, Va. and Sandra L. Daughtridge (Bobby) of Tarboro; along with her beloved Sunday school class; family friends, and many other extended relatives.

Barbara was especially proud of her five grandchildren, Jenna F. Payette (Thomas), William Allen Whitehurst (Darby), Leagan E. Barrett (Justin), Joseph (Wes) Whitehurst, and Peyton E. Eubanks; and seven great-grandchildren, Braxton, Landon, Ayden, and Elsie Ann Payette, Maeve and A.V. Barrett, and Addie Whitehurst.

A service to celebrate and remember Barbara's wonderful life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Oakdale Baptist Church, 13037 US 64 Alt, Rocky Mount, NC 27801. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
