Obituary

Rocky Mount -

Beth Johnson Green, 83, passed to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Mrs. Green, daughter of the late Ollie and Linnie Johnson, was a native of Lucama, NC. Two days after graduating from Lucama High School she worked for Planter’s National Bank as a bookkeeper for six years in Rocky Mount. It was there she joined the Rebels Softball Team and it was on the softball field that she met her future husband as he was at another ballpark playing third base. On February 7, 1959 she married the love of her life, William I. Green and they enjoyed 64 ½ years of a wonderful marriage together. She was 4th Place in the Miss Rocky Mount Pageant in 1958. She was employed by Rocky Mount City Hall as an Accounting Administrator for 12 years. After several back operations and health problems, she went to Richard’s Beauty School and received her cosmetologist license and then opened her own business at her home called Beth’s Beauty Shop for 12 years. She then went to work for Janet R. Hamilton, CPA as a receptionist and later she went to work for Freedom Federal Credit Union as an Administrative Assistant to the President - CEO for 13 years where she went on disability due to a stroke.

Beth is a past member of Marvin Methodist Church where she compiled and published a church cookbook and made many sales for the building fund. She is also a past member of the North Rocky Mount Baptist Church where she was a Junior Choir Director, a Choir Member, a Youth Sunday School Teacher, Ages 10-12 Boys Sunday School Teacher, and a Director of the Youth Group. She was currently a member of Arlington Baptist Church. She was a member of the TPA (Travelers Protective Association), Past President TPA Women’s Club, and Women’s Missionary Union President.

Beth was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, Gigi, and friend. She enjoyed traveling with her special buddies Joe and Robin Manning and Harry Lee and Lou Smith to many places such as Myrtle Beach, Wisconsin, Memphis and Milwaukee. She especially loved shopping trips with her buddies, Robin and Lou.

Beth will be fondly remembered for her loving nature and her beautiful smile. She always put God first in everything she did and always said if it wasn’t for God she wouldn’t have made it through all the sickness she suffered. She loved her devoted husband that cared for her and was always by her side through all her sickness throughout the years. She loved her beautiful two daughters Lisa (and husband Jeff) and Angela and was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters Heather (and husband Steven) and Tabitha and then a beautiful great granddaughter Bellamy. In addition to her family, she loved Lisa Alston that was her Home Health Aide and special friend for 10 years. Lisa helped her with her baths, cooking, cleaning and even shopping. Beth also loved the friends and staff that became extended family to her at Rocky Mount Rehab where she has been the last 5 ½ years. She taught many bible studies while she was there and taught many how to make jewelry and other arts & crafts. One year she put together a Christmas program for all the staff and patients which was of course based around her love of music and the birth of Jesus. She will be greatly missed by the many that knew and loved her.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Linnie Johnson and one brother, Jerry Johnson.

She is survived by a loving family that includes her husband, William I. Green; daughters, Lisa Smith and husband, Jeff of Emerald Isle, NC and Angela Green of Rocky Mount, NC; granddaughters, Heather Boone and husband, Steven, of Sims, NC and Tabitha Ellis of Rocky Mount, NC; great granddaughter, Bellamy Boone of Sims, NC; sister, Faye Pittman of Goldsboro, NC and a number of loving extended family members and special friends.
