Carl Embree Obituary

Clayton -

Carl Roger Embree

Carl Embree passed away September 7, 2021, at the age of 72.  Carl was born February 2, 1949 in Ellenville, New York.  He was the son of Calvin Embree and Doris Feltman.  He grew up in Kerhonkson, New York.  He enjoyed many happy summers of his youth with his grandparents splashing in a creek in upstate New York.  In sixth grade, Carl met his best friend, Charles Hansen. Carl and Charles graduated from Rondout Valley High School in 1968. They formed a lifelong friendship, with both of them later moving to North Carolina.

Carl joined the Pipefitters union in 1970 and worked as a Pipefitter in the mechanical construction industry in New York and later in North Carolina until his stroke in 2012. Carl thrived in his profession, starting as an apprentice, rising through the ranks to journeyman, foreman, and general foreman in New York.  Carl was also a volunteer firefighter for the town of Rocherster, New York for 20 years, and served as Fire Chief for 8 of the 20 years.

Carl’s first marriage to Peggy Jacobson Embree Jones was in 1970 in New York, and they had three children: Darren Embree, Jason Embree, and Sabrina Embree Davis.

In 1991, Carl met Lisa Steider Piraino. Carl and Lisa, along with two of Carl’s children and Lisa’s daughter, moved to North Carolina in 1992, with Carl’s third child later joining them.  In North Carolina, Carl continued his career and was a Pipefitter Superintendent. Carl was a beloved colleague and mentor to many throughout his career. Carl and Lisa got married in 2003.

Carl’s talents were many, but most of all he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who appreciated spending quality time with those he loved. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and made many beautiful pieces for family and friends. He also enjoyed NASCAR, tackling DIY projects, and taking pictures of his eight grandchildren and one great grandson. The grandchildren loved spending time with Carl, and they enjoyed eating snacks so much together that the grandchildren nicknamed him ‘Snack Man’. Carl was also  known for his storytelling, his humor, and dedication to his family.

He is survived by Lisa, all of his children, his grandchildren Isabell Embree, Abigail Embree, Tyler Embree, Jacob Embree, Nicole Embree, Halley Davis, Madison Tracy, Aaron Rooke and his great grandson, Hayden Embree.

Carl fought a long and courageous battle against cancer, and spent his final days at home in Clayton, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Hospice at https://gives.tfaforms.net/4769062?tfa_3068=ProMedica+Hospice+Memorial+Fund and/or to the fire department at Rochester Company #2, P.O. Box 205, Accord, N.Y., 12404.

In accordance with his wishes, we will not be having any services, instead having a Celebration of Life for him on September 25th from 1:00 to 4:00 at his home in Clayton, North Carolina. The family will be providing all of his favorite snack foods that he loved to share with his grandkids. If anyone wants to bring a covered dish, that’d be great. And if you don’t, that works as well. We will be spreading his ashes in New York on October 16th.
