Rocky Mount -
Catherine “Cathy” Louise Hendrix Dickson left this world on April 7th surrounded by her loving family.
Cathy was born on April 20, 1950, in Jesup, Georgia to Louis Herman Hendrix and Mildred Whitehead (Hendrix) Muckenfuss. Her family moved to Charleston South Carolina when she was a young child. Growing up she loved spending summers at her Granny’s house in Brunswick, Georgia. She loved animals, but her passion was horses. She was a showman of multiple breeds of horses and an avid supporter of anything equine related. Cathy went to Clemson University for a degree in Veterinarian Medicine but decided to pursue a teaching career from the College of Charleston in which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education. From there she went on to teach Special Education at James Island High School and then Fort Johnson High School. After teaching for 13 years in the Charleston Public School System, she relocated to Rocky Mount N.C. with her husband of 34 years and continued in the education field and then eventually retired from Nash Community College in 2012.
She was a very active volunteer for many years in 4-H and was a big supporter of her children and their achievements. Cathy never knew a stranger; she could talk to anyone. She loved having get-togethers with family and friends. She also loved to travel, try interesting foods, and just enjoying life. In her spare time, you would find her knitting/crocheting, which she called her “handwork”, and reading books or spending time outside with her animals that she loved dearly. Most of all Cathy loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and her “Sister Friends”.
She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Herman Hendrix; mother, Mildred Whitehead (Hendrix) Muckenfuss; stepfather, Edward R. Muckenfuss; and brother, Richard “Ricky” Herman Hendrix.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard “Rich” C. Dickson, daughter Sally E. MacKenzie (Dickson) Jones and husband, Ferrell; son, James “Tyler” Dickson and wife, Audrey; daughter, Amanda C. (Dickson) Crum and husband, Joe; sisters, Tina M. Price and Belinda M. Jared; grandchildren, Wyatt James Dickson, Lydia Marie Dickson, and Catherine “Cadie” Diane Crum; nephews, John “J” Price III, Randy Price, and Cody Jared, as well as numerous “Sister Friends”.
Cathy's family will host a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday April 16th at 2:00pm, located at the Dickson Family Farm 13925 Hwy 43, Nashville N.C. 27856. Any flowers or condolences can be sent to 2716 Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804.
