Cecilia Sao Joao

Cecilia “Ceci” Sao Joao, age 70, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was born on November 26, 1953 in the village of Pilar De Bretanha, in Portugal, to José and Ilda Pavao.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Pavao and Miguel Pavao and sister, Maria Medeiros.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel “Manny” Sao Joao; sons, Joshua Sao Joao and Daniel Sao Joao; brothers, Octavio Pavao and John Pavao; along with many nieces and nephews. Ceci was also especially proud of and adored her grandchildren, Alina, Anthony, Adrianna and Isabella.  

A woman of many talents, Ceci also assumed the role of 'entrepreneur' as she successfully owned and operated the much loved Dunkin' Donuts on Stone Rose Dr from December 1994  to June 2022. Her vibrant and positive personality was reflected in her daily interactions with customers and employees. As a business owner, she encompassed selflessness, kindness and compassion towards others which reflected her genuine commitment to customer service and dedication to her community. She was well respected and loved by employees and customers alike and will be deeply missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a staple in her community. 

The public is invited to a memorial service hosted by the family and church on April 20, 2024 beginning at 10:30 AM, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 331 Hammond Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
