Tarboro -
Cheryl Frances Cannon Butler, age 78, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2023 at ECU Health and Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.
Cheryl's journey began on January 18, 1945 in Edgecombe County as the third daughter and fifth child born to B.P. and Frances Bailey Cannon. Throughout her 78 years, 'family' was more than just a word or set of obligations. 'Family' was everything for her as a loving mom, nanny, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She was affectionately known as "Ma Cheryl" to many who were not necessarily blood related, but welcomed and loved the same as family. She had a delightful love and appreciation for good music, dancing, and shagging and could have a good time most anywhere. She was a die hard NC State fan and her compassionate heart made her a life long avid animal lover and advocate.
Cheryl's life was a wonderful gift and she will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernie and Eddie; sisters, Eleanor and Barbara; daughter-in-law, Sharlean Butler; and grandson, Shawn Coley.
She leaves a life time of treasured memories for her loving family including sons, Jeffery Butler (Sandra) and Frankie Butler; daughter, Marcy Butler (Travis); brother, Butch Cannon (Patricia); grandchildren, Michaela Woodard (Neil) and Lauren Barnett (Eric); great-grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, and Aaron, her beloved four legged baby, Abbie; along with many nieces, nephews, family friends, and other extended relatives.
Cheryl's family will host a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the home of Michaela Woodard, 1328 Carr Farm Road, Macclesfield.
