BATTLEBORO -
Constance (Connie) Porter Barus went home to be with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 8, 2020. In the 95 years that Connie spent on this earth, she loved and was loved by many people. Born in Dublin, Georgia on July 12, 1925, Connie truly exemplified all of the characteristics of a “Georgia Peach” and was proud to claim herself as such. She was the daughter of the late W.T. and Annie Porter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman B. Barus, and son-in-law, Burk B. Bradley.
For the past 54 years, Connie made Rocky Mount, North Carolina her home. During her life in Rocky Mount, Connie enjoyed working her part-time job until the age of 86, spending time with her family going shopping, out to eat, to live music events, and attending church services. Connie also took pride in her home and working in her yard in the Battleboro community. Connie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Connie leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Anita Quinnette Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida; two children, Lee Anne Barus Bradley of Whitakers, and Thomas B. Barus (Ruth) of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Allison Barrett (Dalton), Burklee Bradley, Sarah Ponce (Chandler), Christopher Barus (Blair), and 3 great grandchildren, Sage, Britt, and Mason.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount. A visitation will be held outside of the church beginning at 1:00pm. A burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.
In keeping with efforts to protect friends and family during the COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings are respectfully required for all guests.
