David C. Pratt, 62, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 25, 2021. He was born on November 11, 1958 in Greenville, North Carolina. He was the youngest son of Cabell Oswald (C.O.) Pratt and Gladys Hollandsworth Pratt.
David graduated from Ayden-Grifton High School in 1976. Many of his high school classmates were lifelong friends. Following graduation, he attended East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (1983) and a Master of Arts Degree (1987). While pursuing his Graduate Degree, David worked as Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at East Carolina University. After graduation, he served as both Assistant and Interim Strength and Conditioning Coach, working with all student athletes. David especially enjoyed football seasons when he joined the Pirate football team and coaches on the sidelines for all games.
David married Melonie Styons Pratt in 1985 and lived in Greenville, NC before relocating to Rocky Mount in 1988 to further their teaching careers. David was a Physical Education teacher at Englewood Elementary School before becoming the Director of the Westridge YMCA. He returned to teaching at Parker Middle School where he worked with various sports teams, coached softball, and also served as Athletic Director before his retirement in 2013. David was an educator and coach for 23 years, during which time he had tremendous impact on the lives of many colleagues and students.
David's passion was fitness and nutrition and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with everyone who sought his advice. He thoroughly enjoyed competing in bodybuilding and powerlifting competitions in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia for over three decades. While training at multiple fitness centers during his lifetime, he cultivated numerous treasured friendships.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, James Michael Pratt and a sister, Pamela Pratt Kinlaw. Surviving, in addition to his devoted wife of 36 years, is a brother, George Stephen Pratt and cousins, Barry, Randy, and Jeff Hollandsworth and their families. David is survived by his parents-in-law, Ray and Kitty Styons, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his devoted companion, his dog, Lucy.
