Charlie "Dayton" Cone, Jr., age 67, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 19, 2021 at Nash UNC Hospital. Dayton was born in Nash County, NC on October 31, 1953 to Charlie Dayton and Zenith Joyner Cone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Becky Cone, and second wife and mother of his children, Debra Cone. He leaves a loving family that will miss him deeply including his daughters, Crystal Thorpe of Rocky Mount, Laura Brooke Huntington (Richard) of Wendell, and Brenda Baker (Art) of Fuquay-Varina; brother and sister, Ted Thompson of Rocky Mount and Ginny Bartholomew of Waycross, Ga.; his loving companion, Robbie Jackson of Nashville, along with his Castalia Volunteer Fire Department family and a host of family friends and other extended relatives. Dayton was especially proud of his grandchildren, Trinity Kearney, Justin Wiggins, Gwynevere Huntington, Jayden Thorpe, and Jamison Huntington.
As a beloved community staple, Castalia Volunteer Fire Department recognized Dayton as "one of the best fire fighters Castalia has known" following forty-five years of dedicated service. He was more than just a great fire guy, but also a mentor, encourager, and dear friend. He was loaded with experience and knowledge that he readily shared with the up and comers, always encouraging and supporting them along the way. He had a servant's heart, ready to do for others and meet any need he could for family, friends, and neighbors. His heart was special and his life was important because it made such a wonderful impact on so many others.
Please join friends and family for a special time to remember and celebrate Dayton's wonderful life Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Castalia Baptist Church, 9563 Main St., Castalia.
