Blanton "Gene" Jackson, age 95, a resident of Battleboro, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 14, 2023, while surrounded by his family. He was born in Vienna, Georgia on August 19, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Desmond Blanton Jackson and Sannie Viola Crozier Page; sister, Betty Ann Mitchell; brother, Wayne Davis Page; and son-in-law, Andrew (Andy) McKenzie.
He is Survived by his wife of 26 years, Dorothy Edmondson Jackson; sister, Mary Lee Britt Lee; sons, James Allan Jackson (Chris) and Thomas Elton Jackson (Jayne); daughter, Jeannie Jackson McKenzie; stepson, Robert "Robbie" E. Stokes Jr (Angela); stepdaughter, Bonnie Lynn Stokes; grandchildren: Rachel, Eric, Jackson, Kristin, Kaleigh, Madeline, Elizabeth, Mary Kathryne, and Noah; and great grandchildren: Madilyn, Marcy, Laura Peyton, Coleman And Ramona.
He served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Georgia Air National Guard for several years. He wore many hats as an educator with the Atlanta Public Schools; a farmer in Florida for several years; as an entrepreneur; and as a Minister of Jesus Christ.
Gene was a member of First Baptist Church Rocky Mount, NC for many years. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1961 and was a graduate of California Baptist University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served churches in Florida, Alabama, Washington State, California, and North Carolina. He served for many years as a volunteer in Detention Centers and Prison Ministries.
Gene was the author of four books and enjoyed writing biblical articles for newspapers. He was instrumental in founding the Writers Guild in Rocky Mount.
A graveside service will take place at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Rocky Mount, NC at 2pm on Tuesday, September 19,2023. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
