Helen Jones Obituary

Nashville

Helen Rose Jones, 90, passed away January 13, 2021 with her devoted family by her side.  Helen was born on February 2, 1930 to Lucy Williams Rose.  She was born into a large family, with 13 brothers and sisters.  She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1949.  While in high school Helen was Co-Captain of her basketball team and was voted School Queen her Senior Year.  She met the love of her life, Elbert Ray Jones while in High School.  The two have been inseparable since.  They were married on January 29, 1950.

She and Elbert lived outside of Red Oak on a small plot of land.  Helen loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and a great cook.  Helen and Elbert would cultivate a garden annually and she would gather, can, and preserve food for her family.  They routinely grew more than enough for their family in order to share their bounty with other family members and the community they loved.

In November of 1952, God blessed Helen and Elbert with a daughter Patricia, who is their pride and joy.   She and her husband, Doug have 2 children, Amy & Kristin.  Helen and Elbert provided childcare for Amy & Kristin during their preschool years.  Helen, along with Elbert instilled the values of honesty, integrity, and a love for Jesus in their granddaughters.  Helen had a deep abiding faith in Jesus Christ. She shared that faith with her husband, her daughter, and her grandchildren.  She was often heard teaching them songs of faith.  That legacy of faith has been transmitted into her family.  Now her four great grandchildren are being taught that same love for her Savior and Lord.  She and Elbert are members of Englewood Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband of 71 years Elbert Ray Jones, daughter Patricia Jones Ezzell (husband Doug), granddaughters Amy Massengale (husband Kyle) and Kristin Ezzell, and four great grandchildren (Finley, Wyatt, Silas, and Norah).  She also leaves brothers and sisters:  Cliff Rose, Aileen Davis, A.J. Rose, Eugene Rose, Ronald Rose, Ann Varnell, and Joyce Ellis.  In addition to her mother, Lucy Rose, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers:  W.T. Rose, Junior Rose, and Alvin Rose and sisters: Alma Clarida, Doris Griffin, and Christine Pierce.

A very special thank you to a dear friend, Hope Lewis for the expressions of Christ-like love and caring toward Helen and Elbert over the past years.  Hope loves and cares for them as if they were her very own.  The family would also like to thank all of the wonderful people of Nash Hospice care for their outpouring of loving care during Helen’s last days.

A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, 2:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church.  Due to the Covid19 pandemic, there will be no time of visitation and no graveside service.  In keeping with efforts to help maintain safety during the Covid19 pandemic, facial coverings and 6ft social distancing are respectfully requested.
