On Saturday, November 20, 2021, our beloved husband, father, papa, and dear friend finished his journey here on earth to claim his victory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesse "Herbert" Braswell, Jr. began this life in Edgecombe County on September 29, 1942 as the only son born to Jesse Herbert and Annabelle Braswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shirley Ann Braswell.

Herbert's life was large and full and impactful to so many relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. As a proud veteran, he loved his country and served honorably in the United States Navy. He married his love, Evelyn Abrams and remained her loving husband and life partner for fifty-four years. He was a career "railroad man" and retired after 30 plus years of service. Herbert had a special love for all of God's creation and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycle riding. Family was his staple in life and he was devoted to them in every way possible. His life was truly a gift and he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Herbert leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for his wife, Evelyn Braswell; son, Brian Braswell, both of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Sommer Bowling (Timmy) of Momeyer, Jesse Brian Braswell of Rocky Mount, Cody Robert Braswell (Ginger Barnes) of Sharpsburg, and Cameron Mae Braswell of Nashville; two great-grandchildren, Camdyn Braswell and Charlie Paige Bowling; special cousins, Billy and Mike Hollowell; his Gold Wing Riders members; as well as countless caring friends and neighbors.

Friends are invited to remember and celebrate Herbert's wonderful life on Tuesday, November 23 at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, 3732 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC. Visitation with family and friends will take place at 2:00 pm, followed by A Celebration of Herbert's Life at 3:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the O'Berry Center Foundation, 400 Old Smithfield Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
