Jack Cockrell Obituary

Rocky Mount - 

Jack Edward Cockrell, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home Monday afternoon on May 9, 2022. He was born on November 5, 1939 in Nash County to Homer and Ella Carpenter Cockrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Franklin and Wayne Cockrell; sister, Frances Powell; son-in-law, Jason Pridgen; and great-granddaughter, Rhiannon Carroll.

He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 55 years, Lynette Joyner Cockrell; children, Julie Perdew (Richard) of New Bern, Wendi Corbitt of Pinetops, Jackie Viverette (Larry, Jr.) of Rocky Mount, Jaime Hill of Rocky Mount, and Amy Pridgen of Sharpsburg and sister, Phyllis Stone (John) of Newport. Jack was especially proud of his grandchildren, Kelly Carroll, Joey Powell, Kenneth Corbitt (Megan), Kasey Owens (Bryan), Korey Corbitt (Mychaela), Kimberly Viverette, Ray Ervin, III, Ashleigh Gay (Ahmad), Olivia Gay, Austin Peele, Haley Pridgen and Cole Pridgen and great-grandchildren, Eden, Wyatt, Levi, Myles, Waylon, Tyson, Madisyn, Bentley, Kora, Fiona Jack, BJ, Kolesyn, Kyler, and Jane. 

Jack was a proud veteran, serving honorably in the US Army. He worked at Hardee's Foods as an IT and Communications Technician up until his retirement. He was a kind, loving man who put his family above all. The family would like to extend special gratitude to Kindred Hospice for the care and compassion shown during this difficult time. Jack will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

A private memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Kindred Hospice, 1712 W. Howard Ave., Tarboro, NC  27886.
