Jesse Clarence “J.C.” Spell, age 82, passed away Saturday morning, June 20th, 2020 at Nash UNC HealthCare in Rocky Mount.
J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, John Everette and Annie Green Spell and brother, Norman Lee Spell.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of sixty years, Joyce Tippette Spell; children, John Keith Spell of Louisburg, Kimberly Joyce Spell and Robin Ann Spell (Brian Stanley), all of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Jason Clarence Spell, Heather Nicole Coley, Joseph Edward Spell, Tyler Carpenter, and Peyton Stanley; special sister-in-law, Cynthia May (Al); and special cousin, Willie Green, along with many wonderful friends and extended family members.
J.C. was a proud veteran having served his country in the United States Navy. His career as a civil servant for the city of Rocky Mount began in 1962 and lasted more than forty-two years. Many people still remember his smile and jovial mannerisms from when he operated the kiddie train and merry-go-round during the summers at Sunset Park. He later settled in at the Water Treatment Plant and retired as Chief Water Treatment Operator in 2004.
J.C. was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He loved Harvest Baptist Church and his church family. His life was a blessing to many and brought many smiles along the way. He will be sweetly missed and remembered for years to come.
Please join family and friends to celebrate and remember this wonderful life at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 24th, 2020 at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount. The family will greet friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
