Jim Karr, III Obituary

Enfield -

Jim Karr, Ill, age 78, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at his home in Enfield, North Carolina. He was born on September 3, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Karr, Jr. and Edith Hervilla Karr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Karr.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Karr; children, Brenda Fields (Kent) of Pasadena, Texas, Tracy Mace (Sam) of West Jordan, Utah, Jamie Willey (Ian) of West Valley, Utah and Britanie Karr of West Jordan, Utah, Rich Ashwood of Enfield, NC, Mandra Eubanks of Lehi, UT and grandson and coworker, Tyton Flitton of Enfield, NC; along with many extended family, friends and his Northside Community Church family. Jim was especially proud of and loved his grandchildren, Amber, Aubry, Blayke, Jayden, Shayla, Arianna, Christopher, Nathan, Tyton, Riley, Anthony, Hannah, Nick and Sadie; great-grandchildren, Deonna, Autumn, Oliver, Lilianna, Christopher and Matthew and Julissa; and great-great grandson, Sean James.

Jim was a member of the Golden East Railroad Modelers and could be found at "The Junction" every Saturday. He had a passion for building model trains as well as enjoying the fellowship of the other conductors who shared his hobby. His other passion in life was looking forward to Sunday for worship and serving his church. He never wanted to miss attending. Of course, after church was NASCAR. He loved it so much and was so excited to have the chance to attend several races in person, but he would gladly miss all of that to go on a cruise with Gayle. He really enjoyed learning about the places he visited. In his younger years, Jim was an avid bowler. He could spend hours playing game after game, aiming for that perfect strike. He was also an active member of TOPS Utah (taking off pounds sensibly) where he attained his weight loss goal and was crowned Chapter King and went on to be a first runner-up to State King. He maintained his weight loss and stayed as a KOPS (keeping off pounds sensibly). Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and his absence will be missed by his family, friends and his Northside Community Church family.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Northside Community Church, 1660 Beaver Pond Drive, Rocky  Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
