Joe Grimmer Obituary

Tarboro -

Shortly after midnight, Thursday, June 23, 2022, our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and dear friend finished his race here on earth and claimed his victory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Joe's journey began in Edgecombe County on October 27, 1937 as the first child born to Benjamin J. and Mary Elizabeth Grimmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, whom he loved dearly, Bill and Mildred Brewer.

Joe grew up to marry his love, Shelby Jean Brewer and set about making a life and home for his family with the greatest of care. He possessed an admirable work ethic that spanned over a 52 year career with Carolina Enterprise. He could talk "plastic" till the sun came up. Being a husband, father and papa gave Joe the greatest joy. He was genuinely devoted to each of them and cherished their time spent together.

Joe is leaving a treasure trove of wonderful memories for his loving family that includes his wife of 58 years, Shelby Grimmer; son, Mark Grimmer and wife, Judy of Tarboro; granddaughter, Brittany Woodard and husband, Jeff of Tarboro; great-grandchildren, Mallory, Braylee, Hudson "Firecracker", and Lawson Joseph Woodard; and siblings, Hubert Grimmer and wife, Kay of Douglasville, GA, Wayne Grimmer and wife, Audrey of Tarboro, and Retha Pappas and husband, Jerry of Rocky Mount.

A service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 2:00PM at Word of Life International Church, 3388 McNair Road, Tarboro, NC 27886. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30PM. Interment will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park, 2879 US-258, Tarboro, NC 27886.
