Johnnie Dean Baum, aged 69, passed away on November 21, 2024, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Known affectionately as the Hatteras Island Poet, Johnnie was a cherished member of his community in Frisco, North Carolina, where his poetry, inspired by life in the Outer Banks, resonated deeply with many.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Rudder, and her husband Casey. Johnnie was a grandfather to four grandchildren and a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren.

Johnnie is also survived by his two brothers, Wayne Baum and his wife Joann, and Chris Baum and his wife Cindy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Johnnie’s legacy will live on through his poetry and the memories he created with his family and friends. 

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
