Joseph “Cecil” Turner, age 77, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, November 20, 2024 at his home in Tarboro, North Carolina. He was born in Nash County on January 27, 1947 to Vander and Essie Edwards Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie and Linwood Turner; sister, Vannie Lamm and nephew, Joey Joyner.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah "Debbie" Turner; daughters, Miranda Turner of Tarboro and Linda Marie Ferguson (Eric) of Bedford, VA; son, James “Tater” Shearin of Greenville; of Tarboro; brothers, Timmy Turner of Elm City and Jimmy Turner (Debbie) of Rocky Mount; sister, Emma Jane Holder, also of Rocky Mount; along with seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other extended relatives.

A service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 108 Mill Pond Road, Speed, NC 27881. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00am.
