Joyce Huneycutt Obituary

Rocky Mount -

Joyce Brown Huneycutt, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2024. She was born February 12, 1940 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to George Washington and Mary Brock Brown. She graduated from Benvenue High School and later began a successful banking career, starting with First Union Bank and retiring as Branch Manager from Wells Fargo Bank.

Joyce was crafty and skillful in many areas, but most especially so when it came to sewing and growing. As an excellent seamstress, she was known for being able to tackle most any sewing task that came her way, from simple alterations to detailed creations from scratch. Her passions grew to include a deep love for gardening, marveling at the miracles of life in the forms of beautiful flowers and hearty plants. Her amazing green thumb earned her the recognition of 'Master Gardener' by the Nash County Agriculture Center, a title for which she was humbly proud to have.

Above all else, Joyce adored and cherished her family. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her life complete and she made a point to be present for every important event in their lives.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, James C. "Jack" Huneycutt; brothers, Muriel Brown and George W. Brown, Jr.; sisters, Naomi Brown, Mavis Vick, and Eleanor Nelms; and son-in-law, Steve Wells.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Priscilla Wells; grandchildren, Jason Wells, Brandon Wells (Candis) and Sarah Wells (Tom Sweeney); great-grandchildren, Elliana Wells and James Sweeney, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
