Lola Ann (Mawby) Barfield

With her loving family close by her side, Lola Ann Barfield finished her race and went Home to meet her Lord and Savior Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hahn McDonald; sister, Mary Ann Berridge; brother, Chesley “Little Chesley” McDonald; and husband, Wayne Barfield.

Lola is survived by a wide circle of relatives, friends, and neighbors, all of whom she considered “family”. She leaves special memories for her devoted life partner, Larry Elam; daughter, Rebecca Sue Mouzon (Russell) of Tarboro; brothers, Jake Mawby (Dawn), Steven McDonald, of Missouri, and Randy McDonald (Diana) of Louisiana; grandchildren, Alex "pudding eyes", Levi "golden child", Liam "bear", Lillianna "buggy boo", and Michaela "ky-ky".

Lola loved and mothered almost everyone she knew. She was a giver who gave all of herself and offered endless love and encouragement. While many called her “momma”, "nanny", or “grandma”, we know she will be especially missed by Courtney Wray (Casey) and children, Riley and Henry; Heaven Barfield; Katrina Johnson (Solomon); Doug Barfield (Tammy) and children, Todd and Tamerah; Jessica Cherry and her children, Devin, Damon, Dylan, Dakota, Breanna, and Gabriel; Teri Barfield her children, Nevaeh and La'Royal; Mariah Hollis (Dave) and children, Adelynn and Logan;  Elizabeth Griffin; Rhonda Magady (Joshua); Jesse Wayne Elam; and Michelle Elam. She held a special bond and love for her bonus and loved grandchildren, Braylyn Barfield, Deborah and Scarlett Davis, Gerald Williams, Crystal Tippett (Jonathan), and Rusty "GusGus" Swinson.

She leaves behind a special message of: "Tomorrow is never promised. Hug your loved ones tight, don't fight, and I'll save you a seat at church."

A service to celebrate and remember Lola’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 20, 205 at New Life Church, 1127 Benvenue Rd, Rocky Mount, NC  27804.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 – 1:45 pm.
