Lonnie Wade Worrell, age 96, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, at The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Worrell; parents, Wade and Lillian Vick Worrell; sisters, Clara Worrell Johnson and Irene Worrell Moss; and brother, Rufus Wade Worrell.
Lonnie is survived by his daughter; Yvonne Worrell Lucas; sister, Doris Worrell Shearin (David); grandchildren, Angie Vandemark (Trevor) and Amy Reason (Ken); great-grandchildren; Nathan and Caleb Reason, Liana and Tucker Vandemark; and several nieces and nephews, and a devoted pastor and church family.
Lonnie was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II under the leadership of General George Patton. He was also a lifetime member of Barnes Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir director, Sunday school teacher and many other capacities. During his professional career, Lonnie worked as a Correctional Officer until retiring from the NC Department of Corrections in 1988.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, beginning at 11 AM at Barnes Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church, 5592 West Mount Drive, Nashville, NC 27856 followed by a service at 12:00 PM. The service will conclude in the church cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Army.
