Luther Ezzell Obituary

Rocky Mount -

Luther Patrick "Pat" Ezzell, age 84,  passed away at his home December 20th, 2020.  Pat was born in Rocky Mount on December 15th, 1936 to Lewis Patrick and Mamie Mears Ezzell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Ezzell; three sisters, Annie Laura Dickenson, Louise Moore, and Billie Holder; five brothers, Jessie "Buddy" Ezzell, Joseph Ezzell, Edwin "Bull" Ezzell, Roger Ezzell, and Earl Ezzell. He leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for his devoted wife of 58 years, Karen Best Ezzell; son, Greg and wife, Ivonne Arias Ezzell; and daughter, Paula and husband, Britt Medley; and sisters, Mae Joyner and Jeannie Ruffin. He was especially proud of his six grandchildren, Patricia, Carson, Matthew, Gary, Sienna, and Sofia; two great-granddaughters, Jozlyn & Jordan, and one great-great granddaughter, Kennedy. Pat will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives.

Before his much deserved retirement in 2004, Pat was a well known community fixture as the owner and operator of "Pat’s" on Fairview Road for forty years. He was also a member of and held leadership positions with the Rocky Mount Shrine Club, Masonic Order, Rocky Mount Elks Lodge and American Legion, as well as a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Sandra Peele, Minnie Dantzler, Sue Johnson and Samantha Creekmore for their tender care during Pat’s final months. We are also extremely grateful to Kindred Home Health & Hospice Care and Amada Care.

A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Oakdale Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
