Michael Gene Cherry, age 39, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was born in Greenville, North Carolina on May 3, 1986. He was preceded in death by his father, Barry Gene Cherry, paternal grandparents, Robert Lee and Judith Velma Cherry; maternal grandmother, Carolyn Everett Sexton; uncles, William Andrew Sexton, Jr and Larry Gene Cherry.

He is survived by his mother, Sheila Sexton of Rocky Mount; daughter, Brooklyn Nicole Elks (Josh) of Lucama; sister, Christina Arellano of Pinetops; uncles, Michael E. Sexton, Joe Sexton (Cynthia) and Robert Cherry; aunt, Priscilla Upole and step-dad, Marco Gomez, all of Rocky Mount.

Michael will also be missed by his nieces, Emilee Brantley (Johnathan) and Alana Grace Arellano; nephew, Jayden Arellano; great-niece and nephews, Liam, Ethan and Savannah Brantley cousin, Jessica Cherry and best fur-baby, Chloe.
