Irene, age 87, passed away on August 15, 2020. She was born in Nash County on August 21, 1932 to Willie Elmer Langley and Pattie Barnes Langley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Pridgen and Henry Thompson; daughter, Jo Ann P. Massingill; sisters, Joyce L. Winstead and Catherine L. Whitley.

Irene lived a life characterized by a spirit of service and giving that instilled confidence, trust and admiration to all those who knew and loved her. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking for them on special occasions. She was a long time member of Barnes Hill Free Will Baptist Church where she served her Lord faithfully for many years, teaching children and singing in the choir.

She will leave her loving legacy to be carried on in the lives of her children, daughters, Sandra Thompson and her husband, Johnny; Ginger Stopher and her husband, Steven; grandchildren, Christopher (Jeonghee), Elizabeth (Nathen), Kimberly (Mike), Michael (Brooke), John (Emily), Stephen, Amanda (John); great-grandchildren, Riley, William, Ellie, Ainsley; siblings, Melvin Langley (Betty Lou), Dennis Langley (Christina), Barbara Glover (Jerry), Rose Webb (Grover) and Steve Langley (Martha).

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to The Lodge at Rocky Mount and Community Hospice of Rocky Mount for the care given to Irene.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Free Will Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27557 or to The American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 in memory of Irene Thompson.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the family will have a private graveside service.
