Rev. Dr. Allen Cherry Obituary

Castalia -

Allen left this life for Heaven Wednesday morning, September 21, 2022.

He was born in Nash County on May 12, 1946, the 9th of 10 children of Elbert and Lottie Wheeler Cherry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lottie Ruth, Marie Ford, Louise Ezzell, Nancy Strickland, and Margie Mangum, and brother, Edward Cherry.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Elba Cherry; daughter, Lisa Marie Weaver (Billy); son, Michael Cherry (Teresa); brothers, William Cherry and Roger Cherry; sister, Barbara Jones (Charles); grandchildren, Jonathan Cherry (Mikala), Lukus Weaver (Megan), Madison Cherry, and Taylor Weaver; and great-granddaughters, Vaeda Weaver and Jovie Cherry, and a great-grandson on the way, Bodhi Weaver.

Allen loved Jesus. When you talk about going all in, that is exactly how he did it. When he became a Christian, he gave his all to Jesus. He started back to school at age 35 and earned his Doctorate of Theology. During his time in the ministry, he served two churches as interim: Gethsemane in Whitakers and Woodlawn Baptist in Woodlawn, Virginia. He also served four churches as full-time pastor: Park Baptist (Roanoke Rapids, NC), Rock Grove (Roxboro, NC), his beloved Pine Grove Baptist (Dugspur, Va), and First Baptist (Scotland Neck, NC).

Allen will be remembered for many things in his life, two of which were his wit and humor, as well as his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandbabies. They all brought joy into his life.

He will also be remembered for telling everyone he saw about his songs and his singing. He wanted to make sure everybody knew his Jesus.

We will surely miss his presence here, but we rejoice in his "Home Going" as his mind is clear again and he is looking for the "cherry" trees along the riverbanks as he was sure God planted one just for him.

Rest in peace our love, until we meet again.
