Castalia -
Ronnie Lee Cockrell, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023. He was born on January 22, 1949 in Nash County to the late George Earnest Cockrell and Mildred Harris Cockrell.
He is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Lisa Sullivan of Castalia, NC, daughter Shannon C. Joyner (Jeff) and grandson Blake Joyner of Zebulon, NC, and sister Georgia Hunt of Laurinburg, NC. He is preceded in death by his sister, Viola Bowen.
Ronnie graduated from Northern Nash Sr. High School and proudly served in the 2nd Battalion of the 23rd Mechanized Infantry in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972. He was employed by the Nash-Rocky Mount School Bus Garage for 26 years and after his retirement, he continued as a self-employed auto mechanic. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and horseback riding.
A special thank you to friends and family for all the love, support, cards, phone calls, text messages and food. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
