With his beloved family by his side, Sam Vastine, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday morning, October 20, 2023. His journey began on September 23, 1946, as a son born in Medaryville, Indiana to Robert L. and Myrtle Woodard Vastine.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tim Taylor, and uncle, J.W. "Pete" Harrell.

Sam grew to become a strong worker and dedicated provider and family man. He had a special connection with nature and loved life as a cattle rancher for many years in Missouri. He enjoyed a successful thirty-five year career as an accomplished truck driver and truly loved driving.

Sam was deeply loved and leaves a lifetime of wonderful memories for his devoted wife of twenty-three years, Judy Harrell Vastine; children, Cheree Lynn Buchanan (Will) of Chino Valley, AZ, Robert Lee "Bob" Vastine (Brandy) of Skull Valley, AZ, Samantha Dawn Vastine of Missouri, Christopher Vastine (Brandy) of Buffalo, MO, and Lynn Eason (Phillip) of Rocky Mount; daughter-in-law, Paula Taylor of Rocky Mount; siblings, David Wiggins (Laura) of Idaho, Robert Wiggins (Alice) of Hampton, FL and Charles Wiggins of Prescott, AZ; brother-in-law, Steve Anderson of Clarksburg, MD and his family; special friends, Troy Stipp (Maggie) of Cleveland, TN and Pete Martinez of Caldwell, ID; along with several nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.  He was a beloved Papa to and will also be missed by twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.  

A service to remember and celebrate Sam's life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 4:00 pm, at Redemption Outreach Christian Center, 7946 E. Langley Road, Elm City, NC 27822 with Pastor Randy Nines officiating. Burial will follow at Macclesfield Cemetery in Macclesfield. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 pm and other times at the home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Redemption Outreach Christian Center Building Fund, same address as above.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Phillip Eason, a special son-in-law and dear friend who gave freely and selflessly of his time and attention for Sam's care.
