Stephen Craig Matthews, age 72, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born on November 9, 1953, to Harold and Margie Matthews of Spring Hope, North Carolina, and graduated from Southern Nash High School in 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A talented guitarist and drummer, Steve had a passion for music that provided joy and comfort throughout his life.  He will be remembered for the love and kindness he extended to everyone he met.

He is survived by his brothers, Bobby Lynn Matthews of Baton Rouge, LA and Timothy Harold Matthews (Betsy) of Asheville, NC; nieces, Amy Wolschlag (Drew) of Geismar, LA, Gabrielle LeBlanc (Robert) of Peekskill, NY and Sydney Offner (Brent) of Franklin, TN; nephews, Lucas Matthews of Canton, MA and Logan Matthews (Brittany) of Madison, WI and uncle, Allen Wooten.

A service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Davis-Little Funerals, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Steve will be laid to rest with his loving parents during a private family service at Oak Dale Cemetery in Spring Hope. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00am.
