Tammie Watkins Joyner, age 51, passed away suddenly after a long battle with multiple health complications due to diabetes on November 13, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur (Ott) Watkins and step-father, George Moore.
Tammie is survived by her Mother, Marie Lewis Moore; brother Michael Watkins (Myra) of Krakow, Poland; step-sister, Teri Wray (Ed) of Wake Forest; nieces Abigail Watkins, Rebecca Watkins, both of Chicago, Gabrielle Wray of Asheville, Amanda Wray of Raleigh; and nephew, Kyle Wray of Wake Forest.
Tammie was fun loving, quick witted and loved her sports, especially UNC basketball, NASCAR racing, (specifically Jimmy Johnson & Jeff Gordon) and her Panthers Football! Though she lost her sight in 2006, she navigated through her illness with the assistance of Marie and George with a willingness to live life to the fullest. If you wanted to know anything, you could ask Tammie! She could give the weather report, a sports score, recite everyone’s birthday, tell you what was on the menu at restaurants and was always checking in on how others were doing. One of the greatest joys in her life was her four legged best friend, Luna. They spent much time together and Luna literally ran through the house barking until she found Tammie at every visit.
Tammie had a special fondness for her dear aunts, Faye Booth, Annette Buchan, Veronica Morrison, Nettie Pritchard, Loretta Carothers and special friend, Jerry Calhoun. She enjoyed conversation and getting together with the many friends she found in her church family at Southside Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed.
Please join friends and family to remember and celebrate Tammie’s life on Monday, November 16, 2020 at a Graveside service to be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with family will be held after the service at the site.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southside Baptist Building Fund.
