ROCKY MOUNT –
Thurman C. Carpenter passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at UNC Nash Hospital after a bout with pneumonia and covid. He was 86 years old.
He is survived by a sister, Jean Cockrell (Gene) and several nieces and nephews, Marsha, Alice, Angela, Lisa, Keith, Arnella, Tina, and Darwin. He was predeceased by his parents, Buck B. Carpenter and Mamie Langley Carpenter; and brothers, Buck, Jr. and Marvin.
Thurman graduated from Coopers High School and worked at The Railroad Company and later at Textilease. His love of people and life put many a smile on a lot of faces. Some of his favorite pastimes included being quite the jokester, girl watching, hunting, and watching his brother-in-law, Gene, play baseball. During basketball season he would always come in with a smile yelling, “Duke! Duke! Duke!” Other times, he would always greet you with “Ho Ho Ho”. No matter when you saw him, he would always meet and leave you with a smile.
There will not be a service at this time because of Covid-19. Please join me in bidding Thurman good-bye. One of the last times I talked to him, I asked him a question about his salvation and his answer was, “Yes Jean, I am saved.”
