Tommy Dean Blackford Sr., 65, passed away early Thursday morning, December 10, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 4, 1955 to Rex and Mary Blackford in Huntingburg, Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Blackford Jr. and brother, Tony Blackford.
After faithfully serving our country 26 years in the US Army, Tom retired as a Sergeant First Class. Following that, Tom was employed by Inco. Later he joined Waste Industries overseeing garage operations. After entering into two business ventures of his own, he worked a short while with the Elks Lodge. He devoted his last years to the Moose Lodge as an administrator.
Tom enjoyed spoiling his grandkids and great grandkids. He never met a stranger and was always quick to help someone in need. Some of his hobbies included riding horses, fishing, playing cards, and hanging out at the Waffle House.
Tom is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Pittman Blackford; children, Monica Creek (Shane) of Bethany, IL, Loni Green (John) of Sullivan, IL, Gala Gaviria (Nelson) of Wake Forest, NC and Nicole Scott of Nashville, NC; brother, Tim Blackford (Laurie); grandchildren, Tommy and Emma McKinney, Khali Creek, Cortney Sands (Jesse), Colten Myers, Gabriella, Alex, and Elena Gaviria, Ashlynn Scott; and 4 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, family friends, and other extended relatives.
He loved his family and his country.
The family will have a private memorial service with full military honors.
