William "Kirby" Carrington

William Kirby Carrington, age 72, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024. He was born in Granville County on November 14, 1951 to William George Carrington and Louise Kirby Carrington, both of whom preceded him in death.

He leaves a lifetime of memories for his wife, Susan Bennett Carrington; sons, Adam Blake Carrington (Carie) of Raleigh, Steven Brent Carrington (Becky) of Broadway and Grant Bennett Carrington (Sandy) of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Blake, Dare and Miley Carrington; sister, Fayne C. Pearson (Stan); brother-in-law, Robbie Bennett (Joyce); special cousin, Kathy K. Barksdale (Lee) of Richmond; along with other extended relatives.

Kirby played football at Rocky Mount Senior High and graduated with the class of 1970. He then went to the University of Richmond where he graduated with a Bachelor of Chemistry. During his professional career, he was a chemical engineer at Bridgestone/Firestone.

Family was always a top priority and the time spent with them was of upmost importance to Kirby. Family time consisted of him coaching his son’s football teams, boating and family trips to the Outer Banks. He was also an avid coin collector and enjoyed traveling abroad where he and Susan enjoyed their adventures to Europe and Britain together. A devoted husband, Kirby and Susan recently shared their 51st wedding anniversary together. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed.

The family will host a Celebration of Kirby’s Life at his home from 2:00pm – 4:00pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
