William "Mike" Michael Keel

With his devoted family by his side, William Michael “Mike” Keel, age 71, peacefully passed away at his home Saturday morning, August 23, 2020.  He was born in Pitt County on June 1, 1949 to William Ashley  and Ava Delle Clark Keel.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Phil Andrews.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Patricia Webb Keel; daughter, Jessica Keel of Macclesfield; sisters, Phyllis Andrews of Tarboro, Kathy Cobb (Mike) of Fountain, and Tammy Pollard (Mitchell) of Tarboro, along with a host nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives. He will also be missed by his canine companion, Gypsy, and granddog, Gracie Lou.

Mike was family man who worked hard taking care of his family in every way possible. He loved his community and dedicated many years serving as the Mayor of Macclesfield from 1996 - 2015 and was later reappointed in 2018 to serve as long his health allowed into 2020. Nothing was better than spending time with family and friends and soaking up the precious moments together that he understood to be cherished gifts. It's these moments and a lifetime of wonderful memories that remind us while we will miss Mike so much, his life was truly something to be celebrated and remembered with love and gratitude.

As a family, we are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and care showered over us and Mike during these past difficult weeks. We especially appreciate Vidant Hospice and their wonderful efforts to keep us informed and Mike comfortable; Willie Keel, who has been more like a brother to Mike than a cousin and always available to help with any need that came our way. Special friends like Dennis Patterson and Craig Taylor have shown us over and over the true love and devotion that comes from a servant's heart and selfless friendships. And to so many others who have been and continue to be here for us with love, prayers, words of comfort and so much kindness...we thank you all and will always remember you.

Please join family and friends to celebrate Mike's wonderful life at a graveside service at Macclesfield Cemetery, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2020. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
