William "Otis" Griffin Obituary

NASHVILLE-

William Otis Griffin, age 97, passed away peacefully at Nash UNC HealthCare on May 29th, 2020.  Born in Nash County on August 11th, 1922, he was the son of William Archibald Griffin and Mary Capps Griffin.  He graduated from Red Oak High School and was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.

After graduation, Otis continued working in the family farming business and he also worked at Raynor's Warehouse and Planters Warehouse in Rocky Mount for many years.  He especially enjoyed raising Black Angus Cows.

Sports, especially football, basketball, and baseball were favorites of Otis.  He shared many interesting and fun stories about going to college games in the Triangle with other men from Red Oak when he was a young man.  An exceptional storyteller, he was able to make you feel as though you were “right there” and totally involved in his childhood and life experiences.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Adele Parker Griffin; his son, William Don Griffin; sister, Lois Griffin Hedgepeth; and brother, George Centell Griffin.

Otis is survived by loving cousin, Sue Murray and husband, Kensey; nephews, Pat Griffin and wife, Melinda, and George Griffin; niece, Brenda Burns, as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.  He is also survived by two step- children and their families.

A graveside service will be held at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, June 1st, at 11:00 AM.

The family extends its profound appreciation to his loving caregivers, Amy Rowe, Frosty Hedgepeth, and Norma Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Oak Baptist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 260, Red Oak, NC 27868.
