Wilma Shearon Hawkins, 77, died June 11, 2020 with her family by her side at her home in Red Oak, NC. Wilma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was born March 14, 1943 to William Allen Shearon and Pella Mae Sanders Shearon. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John E. Hawkins, Jr. and son, Robert A. Hawkins (Sherry); daughter, Jennifer Hawkins Joyner (Charles); grandsons, Josh, Jon and Justin Joyner; granddaughter, Deana Hawkins; and sister Sandra Shearon Hardy (Harvey).
As the first NC State Certified female deputy for Nash County, Wilma enjoyed a successful career with the Sheriff’s Department and retired after twenty years of service.
Wilma was an active and longtime member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, going to the beach, and teaching bible study classes at her home.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, June 15, at 2:00 pm at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. The visitation will take place in the fellowship hall of the church, beginning at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
